An experienced, patient, and supportive teacher, Darren believes that as well as being a discipline, learning an instrument should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. It is this approach which has made him a popular and successful tutor with students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
As well as guiding his students through the ABRSM graded examinations (where requested), he also encourages them to play various styles of music, from classical to folk and beyond, seeking to improve their general appreciation, musicality and understanding of music. He currently welcomes and teaches a wide and varied range of students, from five years old to retired (it is never too late to start!), and maintains a full pass rate in his students’ graded exams, with a high percentage of distinctions and merits.
Lessons are available (Monday to Friday) during the day and evenings, for students of all ages (generally 5 years upwards, depending on the individual) and abilities, tailored to suit each individual's requirements, whether it be working through exams or purely for enjoyment. Darren has also attended an accredited training course, particularly aimed at teaching youngsters. He has an enhanced CRB check and is a member of the Musicians’ Union through which he has public liability insurance. He is also registered with the ICO and is fully compliant with the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
Darren teaches in a dedicated studio at his home in an idyllic part of the rural Hampshire countryside, close to Winchester, where he lives with his wife Avril.
